(Cord Magazine's questions are in blue. Artist responses are in grey.)
Okay okay, so we only got to eight questions here...
This is the Cord Magazine Ten Questions. It's our standard set of completely unrelated questions that we're asking everybody.
NICK ZINNER (GUITAR): Great!
What do you do when you're on your downtime?
N: Sleep, take pictures or read or make some beats on my computer. I like to do things like that.
What's your vice of choice?
N: Cigarettes.
What's your favourite venue/city/country/continent to play in and do you notice drastic differences between audiences in different places?
N: Uh, what was the first out of all those four?
Venue.
N: Venue. The Fillmore in San Francisco. Either that or like, there's a basement of a Unitarian church in Philadelphia. It's awesome to play in too. I really like that one.
Yeah that'd be fun to play. What sort of issues and aspects of the world most concern you these days?
N: Getting [George W.] Bush out of office. And abortion and health care. And gay marriages, having them be legal. Everything that Bush opposes, I'm for pretty much.
What's the one interview question you hope no one ever asks you again?
(At this point we're interrupted by a guy going, "Autographs!")
N: Oh, probably, 'how do you guys deal with all the hype?' either that or 'how did you guys meet?' those two.
I've already heard that so many times. You met Karen in a bar right?
N: Yeah, exactly.
What was your favourite Saturday morning cartoon?
N: I used to really like uh…
(the autograph guy returns, bearing a cd insert…
says something about signing a new page to make sure something about a logo is on it.
Zinner goes, "What? Aaaahhhhhg. Ah, fine.")
N: I think um, Spiderman.
("Oh there it is… here… sorry… [another page to sign])
N: Aw, this is ridiculous man. Yeah I think Spiderman, or Justice League of America, one of those type things.
The old Spiderman, or the new Spiderman?
N: I dunno, whatever one was in the 80's.
So the one where he was like flying through the sky without his...
N: Yup.
Yup. What did you want to be when you were growing up?Besides musician.
N: I dunno, it depends on what stage. I wanted to be a war photographer for a while. So either musician or actor or photographer… something like that.
Something in the arts basically.
N: Yeah.

If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be and why?
N: Probably Bushwick Bill from the Geto Boys, just because he's like the absolute pimp.
So you also want to be a pimp?
N: I do, I'd really like to be just for a day.
You just gotta get the hat, the fur coat…
N: The entourage…
I think you can pull it off.
N: Thanks.
Looks like we're being wrapped up here, so that's cool. Excellent.
N: Thanks.
