Bloodthirsty Lovers
The Delicate Seam.

Release Date : October 5, 2004.
Label: Frenchkiss.
Rating: Andy doesn't dig rating stuff.

The Bloodthirsty Lovers do the same thing now that electro bands did in the 80's... not just a 'new wave' band created now, with direct ties to the 80's, a band trying to sound like the 80's. No no, this is a progression. This is what new wave is in the new millenium. This is what it would have been had it began in this decade. It's experiments and soundscapes and bloopy futuristic trembles. It's distortion and effects, but it's modern rather than a nod to the past. You're my napalm / I'm youre codeine / lost from the moment you whispered to me. - "The Mods Go Mad"

This album is throbbing with Bowie-esque tension and space-iness, electro overtones, glorious noises. Sometimes the sounds are more like animals than instruments (Talk Talk), humming and thrumming with energy. It sounds a bit like creation. How can I choose a favourite song? It's all so sexy and gritty. "The Conversation" is bass-heavy, and they get back to those cool noises. What is that, popcorn at the end? That's the way the conversation leaves me sober. Happiness is a mindblowing experience. "Now You Know" is a bit weird... which is okay, but it sounds cluttered and scattered. Too b-side-ish. The vocal melody is really nice though, very airy. Get away from the window / They're probably watching / with their insect sirens and satellites there / the kissing sound surrounds me now... give me drop dead rock and roll. Okay screw it, this is cool too even thought its scattered. "Medicated" features female vocals, by Katie Eastburn from Young People. It's an interesting change and has a bit of a Chrissie Hynde feel. All in all, very cool disc, really standing out on its own.

Song of choice : "The Mods Go Mad" and "Stiltwalkers' Union Local #199"... don't make me choose!
