Oh Ian Blurton, will he ever stay put? The latest in his string of musical endeavours is C'mon - by the looks of it, sheer pandemonium rock cavalcade festivus-o-rama. Something along those lines.
Yup, pretty much. That's what it is. How right I am.
It almost sounds like the first tune is missing its beginning, but it's just because the band leaps into the fray so bloody fast. This is just big, fat, dirty, ugly, fun-as-hell rock and roll. It has a vibe of old loud campy glam punkrock, and sounds fuzzy enough the be an old record as well. It's music to shimmy to, the songs are short and insane, the guitars are simply gigantic, the voice is rough and the lyrics pretty much don't matter. The philosophy seems to be 'just have fun and make sure you drink a lot, and the rest will take care of itself. And jump off some amps while you're at it.' There's no magic formula here. It's all been done a hundred thousand times - the anthemic, throw-one-arm-in-the-air guitar solos, the stomping drums, all been done - but who can get tired of something that riles you up this much? It is the absolute personification of sex, drugs and rock n roll. And there's a chick in the band too, which automatically makes them a trillion times more awesome in the world of rock. She's probably a tough (but cute) broad. There's a hundred and one rock clichés on this thing, but they all work. It's as much fun as The Darkness without making you slightly uncomfortable. It's as much fun as The Supersuckers without being as hairy (unless Blurton's still sporting that bushman beard of his... which he is... but it's earthy ya know...). It's as much fun as either without having all the intentional gimmicky camp... the camp this has is all because of the inherent camp of rock in general, and not because they wear jumpsuits and spit fire. "Deliver Yr Desire" might be a bit overfuzzed, unless thats just because my stereo is really just that crappy. You almost can't hear the song... yeah I think it's my stereo, never mind. Crappy stereos beware - this CD will not be your friend. The guitar assault is awesome... and Blurton's voice manages to stay cool and not too overbearing through it. Yeah it's all pretty hot. Nothing but grit. This needs a good movie full of hot Hollywood actors to soundtrack. I have little more to say... like I mentioned, there's no new ground charted here - it's just awesome balls-out rock. Kick some groin and C'mon get it on! Did he actually say 'army of love??' Oh MAN! Baby wont you get on top / it's the only way to see my soul. Plenty of hey's and yeah's abound as well... of course. It wouldn't be a rock record without them.
Song of choice :
"From Where We Started" - Supercool highway song.
