The Matadors are rambunctious in an Elvis sort of way. It's rockabilly cool, packed with visions of swinging, leather, cars, and chicks. They're basic lust songs... no love here. It's about knockout girls lounging on on hot rods, and it's music you can really get dancing to. It's growly and loud. "Burning Desire" reminds me of a Chris Isaak-style tune, which is fitting. It's a really nice track, an interesting ballad break in the middle of the more rocking songs. It's like the slow dance at your high school prom. This is so very 50's nostalgia, hot and shimmyable. Big fat (upright!) bass lines and skippy jumpy guitar riffs with a lot of whaaaaaaaammy bar. The band members' names are great too... Hooch? Creepin' Jeff? It's fun how campy and into it these bands get. This is not just their band - it's their entire lifestyle. Everything on here has something to do with hell or rockabilly colours (pinks + blacks). I mean, there's a bit of a theme here. Can you see it? Oh oh oh wait, my mistake, I've been calling this "rockabilly" all along. But it's actually Horrorbilly... there's a certain distinction, you see. They're message board looks like a weird cult website. Splendid.
Song of choice :
"Burning Desire" for sure... gorgeous.
