This will be a mini-interview that reads like a story because I was having technical difficulties with my recorder and sadly missed pretty much this entire interview. So this is pulled from memory, and will be a general commentary by all members of the band. Myself, singer/guitarist/awesome dancer Brad Germain, drummer Adam Knickle, and bassist Ryan Tweedle kicked it at the Media Club before a small showcase there. This is sort of what we talked about.

The guys played a string of shows opening for the Pixies, the latest at the time being just the day before at the Plaza of Nations in Vancouver. According to them, the Pixies show was awesome, but the crowd at back at first and they just thought, “what the fuck is wrong with you??” They all got up by the end of the set though, since they rock so hard. The Pixies' road manager is a friend of theirs now and invited them to play all the Canadian Pixies shows. The Marble Index members are looking forward to being in the UK again on the 49th Parallel tour (a tour of Canadian bands that all went to the UK together). Lowest of the Low is the only band they know on the tour but they anticipate good times. There are lots of showcases, but only like five gigs. People seem dance more to unknown bands in the UK than they do in Canada. Here they just stand at the back and stare at you nervously. The band's record would be different if it had been recorded in Canada because there’s two songs that were written in the UK. They had no big skirmishes in the living conditions (they lived in close quarters in a barn for the recording time) – but Adam and Brad got into a tiff in the last couple days. It was ‘painless’ recording this time much like before. Everything’s surprised them about being on a major label. They didn’t think that would have gotten signed at all... maybe to Sonic Unyon or something smaller like that. Things that are different include : they don’t have to work, they can fly to Vancouver for two shows where before they would have eaten up their whole budget doing that. They also don’t have to do everything for themselves – posters, booking gigs etc. If they want a poster they just tell someone and it happens. There was a quote Brad made in a 2002 interview regarding whether they'd ever get sick of the press… it still rings true. They don’t mind doing interviews. "It’s fun to talk about ourselves! We used to just sit around in bars or rooms like this all day doing nothing just waiting for shows. Now we get to go talk about ourselves, and that’s cool." Internet is a help, important to business, they have people from Japan and such coming to them, people who should not have ever heard their music. While in Vancouver, they went to Celebrities, one of the local gay clubs. Drag queens, awesome music, lots of dancing, and definitely fun. Brad also purchased a shirt from Camouflage, which he was pretty excited about. The plain Vancouver rain made Brad sleepy. And that's it in a nutshell!
