Guess what - we're not done with this series! Here's still another, again just under John Frusciante. Will he have run out of ideas yet??
Nope.
It starts out sounding sort of countryish. This sounds more upbeat than any of the previous albums to open, like it strolled right out of the fun-loving 60's. Frusciante plays simple instruments, just an acoustic guitar and his voice layerd over a few times. And a light harmonica. I can't get over the guy's angelic, perfect voice. Greatly in tune, solid, warbled. It's perfect. All these songs are very quiet and acoustic, like a couple friends sitting on a front porch in frontier times, grampa whittlin' away in the corner. The songs rise and fall ... loud and quiet... with long pauses between lines, as far as absolute dead silence at times. There's a chilling echo. "Control" is beautiful in its simplicity and powerfully emotional. I marvel at Frusciante's ability to have created so many distinct albums in such quick succession. He is truly an artist. "Leap Your Bar" reminds me of music teachers in elementary school, just the way the piano follows the voice so easily. He moves me.
