Wolf Parade
Self-Titled.

Release Date : July 12, 2005.
Label: Sub-Pop.
Rating: Andy doesn't dig rating stuff.

Oh wow, this is sure gonna slot nicely into the current musical planet, somewhere in between the classic surly vocal darkitude of Nick Cave, the amusing characteristics and charming ambience of the Arcade Fire, and the peppy, keyboard-laden groovitude of the Killers. Holy smokes can you ever dance to this. Good fun, the keyboard whine is ever-present in the background, there's this total myriad of voices doing all kinds of things behind the lead, along with it, in unison, out of unison, offbeat, it's great. Smashing cymbals emphasize points over and over. "You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son" has a neat clumsy stop-start beat that's equal parts organic and digital. I love these parading background vocals that sneak in all over. Definitely gives a great flavour. This will be on all the kids' stereos before long. "Disco Sheets" has a festive, David Bowie style atmosphere replete with claps and onomatopoeias and devil-may-care vocal melodies. And is that some near-silent trumpets in the fade-out? "Lousy Pictures" features church-organ keys and flamboyant trade-off vocals, a bit of a raspiness. Excellent, every song is so entertaining!

Sadly, this is just a sneak peek of four songs from a forthcoming album by the Montreal group. I know I can't wait!

Song of choice : "Disco Sheets" I think has to take it for the nod to the oldschool.
