I'm just purely in love with this. All the swimmy synth noises, the jittering, real voice, the very-apparent breaths... oh it's beautiful. A mere 7 songs, I could contend with this for far far longer. Delightfully and charmingly indie, while somehow managing to seem big-budget bold... this is music for the new art-hip set, the same folks who listen to the Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene. "Totipotent" stuns me at the outset. Sometimes the beats of the instruments don't make much immediate sense, but as a whole, everything falls into its own absurd place. It holds a certain innocence, like a child who snuck into mom's piano parlour. Possibly dig "Risking Life & Limb for the Coupon" best for it's wonky deconstruction at the beginning, capped with a massive, feedbacky, fuzzy ending. Wild! Mmm garlic and lard. We get insight into the past from sitting around grandma's chair. How whimsical.
It reminds me of stories my own mothre told me about her childhood, and if I just confused the goshdarn outta you, well, go buy the album and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Song of choice :
Sticking with "Risking Life & Limb for the Coupon" for that unexpectedness is possesses.
