Come On, Feel It.

Release Date : September 13, 2005.
Label: Astro Magnetics.
Rating: Andy doesn't dig rating stuff.

With the things i have heard about this band without actually having heard their music, i was expecting i would really dig it. so let's see if it stands up to the hype it's been given in my world so far....

By a minute and a half into the first tune, "How The West 1," I'm seeing exactly where the hype comes from and despite my semi-conscious effort to brush it off as another modern new-wavey synth thing, there's a certain something about it that is undeniably engaging. it's punchy and fun and varied, the vocals are uplifting and beautiful, the way this track trips through its various parts just grabs me. I'm definitely impressed. The next track doesn't do it for me quite as much. It seems like a regular song that's been hacked into a clubby dance tune, like the parts don't match up so well but were forced into a certain format. Okay so it's a touch-and-go disc, with a flair that makes me think a bit of something like Erasure as an influence... It's flaunty and possibly over-dancey, but that just makes it laregly fun, if not something I personally would be able to listen for hours on end. It tends to get exhausting. Absolutely a hipster album. I really like the passionate vocals in "Denouement." The noises throughout the disc behind the outward music are fun, a bit reminiscent of Self's dabbling in toy instruments and general quirkiness.

Song of choice : It pains me to not choose "Denouement" because I love the passionate chorus, but the rest of the song is a bit clumsy. So probably "Come On Feel It." Actually, no, wait, "Take What's Mine is the favourite. It's energetic and fun and snarly. Take charge. Excellent.
