City & Colour
Sometimes.

Release Date : November 10, 2005.
Label: Universal.
Rating: Andy doesn't dig rating stuff.

Finally... you know the voice of Alexisonfire that you always heard in the background sweetly lilting along in its emo-y way? This is that voice by itself. Wow, Dallas Green has an outstanding, almost feminine voice. It's mind-boggling and enchanting. He gives us the full force of that voice on the opener "...off by heart," which has only a guitar behind him. So does the second track. Maybe this is just an acoustic lullabye/poem album. A guitar strum, simple, a voice bare, a heart, open. Here, a piano comes gently in, almost taking the place of a drum. A light ebb of strings flows in from the side like a distant lighthouse. The voice carries out strong... I'm mesmerized. Some of the guitar picking is phenomenal, very classic, but I just can't get over this voice, now out on its own. Startling. Go Dallas go! Whoa is that a little Santana going on in "Sam Malone?" What desperate, sorrowful songs. I'm so sad. Oh man, there's a breakdown in "Casey's Song" that's just simply haunting.

Song of choice : I think "Comin' Home" is my favourite. Although that outright impact from the first tune is great as well.
