Radio Whales
Infinite Number Of Sounds.

Release Date : August 12, 2005.
Label: Infinite Number Of Sounds Recording Company.
Rating: Andy doesn't dig rating stuff.

I'm not usually a huge fan of all-instrumental albums, and the thing that saves this one is the fact that it sounds like a normal album. We're missing a vocal track for sure, but the point is, a vocal track could easily be laid over top of this music and fit fine, unlike some albums that were made in such a way that a vocal track would just be annoying and detrimental. I do admit though, while I was looking over the back of the CD jacket, reading this small story about a lone whale that's been circling the ocean for years singing a song unlike any known species, I figured that sound would somehow figure in this album, or at least some sort of whale sounds. And it hasn't. Songs like "Kiss My Converse" have the twangy roll of (yes, I'm going to say it) a Boney M record, the background has sounds taken straight out of early-80's video games, and there's this ever-present funky bassline. Anyhow, it's an oddly engaging album. Dig it.

Song of choice : I'm a big fan of the back and forth gentle-and-jarring quality of "Artificial Light." It's a suiting song title if there ever was one.
