Okay forget the music for a moment. my first impression of this band was "I better damn well like them because this artwork is way too cute to hate." Bright yellow CD cover, brimming with scratchily-drawn animals playing instruments and the heralding title that this is "The Best Party Ever." You bet it is!!! A mere minute into the first song has verified that fact. The all-encompassing adjective here is cute. Cute cute cute. The voice is cute, the binking ukelele like sounds, the funny little cute effects on the background vocals, cute song titles, it's all so damn cute! Cute overload! A little country, a little bedroom dingliness. It's festive and colourful. Fans of Belle and Sebastian will like this. I think I've got fleas or some tropical disease... The jivey (and spooky!) "I See Spiders When I Close My Eyes" discusses the horrors of spiders in grapes and the countryside. So much love and comfort and sweet fears through the whole thing. Ah I can't stop smiling! "I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star" is so sweet, and a fun happy sing-along tune. Lots going on here, crazy percussion and fun chorus. The squeaky little bird noises tailing off "Sleeping With A Gun Under My Pillow" bring me right back to giddyness!
Song of choice :
