Astoria
Daylight For Delay.

Release Date : October 11, 2005.
Label: Independent.
Rating: Nearly there. (Screw points. To each his own!)

Astoria made a good album. A short album, but a good album. Very much in the range of the drifty-smoky-ambient rock genre, the only thing that felt out of line before when listening to them, and still does, is that the vocals don't seem to project them same airy, flowy feeling that the instruments so solidly do. Something in there feels like it needs to be better integrated to the music, rather than sitting on top of it. Aside from that, the tunes here are delightful spacelike forays into the underground. Chipping cymbals and chiming guitars, occasional electric blips - a really good album, in the same vein as Longwave. And dang, are those... are those... synth DRUMS leaking out in the middle of "Daylight For Delay?" Awesome! "Everything Is Arranged" has a better grip on those vocals somehow.

Song of choice : "Everything Is Rearranged" for it's down-a hallway guitars and th way the vocals merge with the song.
