Lost beautifully somewhere between the majesty of Enigma and the steely cut of Massive Attack, AU4 shoves its impact in our faces til it's all we can see. Ambient lyrics slip through dusty synth sounds, thrummy bass lines, and mysterious noises. It lilts and soars, crashes and burns, it fluidly pulls out a slew of emotions. Rarely is music so creative these days. The lonely whistle springing slowly to life near the end of "A Mile From Here is a Hole Where I Buried Your Love" is... charming? Deep drums, reverby pinging noises - it's so gorgeous it nearly makes me weep. It has a somewhat 80's-ish feel to it, apparent on songs such as "Of Dreams" that feature vocals that sound suspiciously Tears For Fears-ish.
Song of choice :
While all these songs are astounding in their own right, I can't shake the original, "A Mile From Here..." which you can listen to on our audio player in its original form - a little different from what you hear on the album.
