I like this album and it's hard for me to pinpoint why. It's got a light dusting of the jumpy guitars of modern hip rock bands like your Franz Ferdinands and your Bloc Partys, but in such a manner that doesn't seem like it absolutely hinges on that sound. Like maybe that guitar sound was tossed in just because it's de rigueur, rather than because it was necessary to the song. In another decade they could update the song with whatever guitar sound happens to be fashionable then, and it would probably still work. I can't help but think of the Cranberries "Zombie" at the beginning of "Wonderful," bit that's a very marginal and superficial comparison. It's not an overpowering album, quite a smooth and gentle, oceanside type of thing. In the right hands, I believe this record could do some wonderful things on the radio and whatnot. It's truly a pleasant, if brief, collection of tunes.
Man, so many month-related bands.
Song of choice :
Pretty into "Piece Of Mind."
