The thing that gets me about the opening track "Ice Breaker Blues," is the varying
tempo throughout the song. It changes the mood immensely, from the jaunty piano
opening and 60's country-rock guitar end, surrounding a gummy centre of moody
broodiness. There's a peculiar folkiness to the music, and I only say that's
peculiar because the guy looks like he should be part of some German experimental
artrock combo. I think the liner notes got lost here too. Where was this recorded??
What's going on?! Okay well now it's getting a bit Morrissey on me, so that's more
appropriate. Wait, no it's not. Okay this album is confusing and... alluring
somehow. I like this "Motorbike" tune. Gentle, gentle. I don't think I'm over th
emoon about this guy, but there's some cool stuff, like the appealing guitar
*freehand* going on in "End Of Forever," and to boot, it comes across as a very
romantic album. Soft and sweet and sensitive, with twinkly guitars and breathy
vocals and thoughful words. Pure poetry.
Song of choice :
"Motorbike" for sure
