Miller Howell
Habits Can Be Hard To Break.

Release Date : June 13, 2006.
Label: Soonverysoon.
Rating: Cute. (Screw points. To each his own!)

Oh my. Firmly planted in the realm of ladykilling singersongwriters, this overly gentle disc starts off light and lilty, a springy song called "Tomorrow Comes," bedecked with high backing harmonies, twinkly guitar work and fluttery lead vocals. Move over John Mayer and James Blunt, you've got another one coming down the pipe. Now the only thing here is that this guy has a voice that sounds like it might have the ability to do more damage than just flitty girl-oriented sunsetty beach songs. He does sort of simp out at the end of this song where he signs up as though he is trying to really let loose but is very scared of getting too loud. This is the sort of thing Simon Cowell would rip the guy to shreds for if he'd ever found himself on American Idol, which is a show perfectly suited for this style of poppy accessible music. I don't know, so far it strikes me as a bit dull. Not bad, but not really a stand-out either. It sounds a lot like a recording from a nervous guy on stage at an open mic night. That said, with a bit of a spit-polish, I'm sure this guy could score a legion of young female fans who pass out at the sight of him.

Song of choice : "I'm Here" is pretty in a very Coldplayish kind of way.
