This is a real oddball album. Part of me kind of likes the scathing, off-base,
low-fi growly vocals and spooky melodies and lightly-dusted Velvet Underground vibe.
And another part of me thinks it sounds like ridiculous, disjointed noise with no
direction. I'm leaning towards the latter - it's a largely uncomfortable album. But
the moments of dreary, bleak morose musicality are sometimes quite cool. And also,
sometimes the wonky noises end up just working, like the all-over chorus in "Broken
Stuff" is enjoyable for its chaos. No one would say this guy has a particularly
melodic voice but it sure is fun.
Song of choice :
"Our Name Is Strange" has the best moments I think.
