A peculiar blend of gentle and pounding - swimming, soft vocals shimmer over a heavy thudding drum through the first track, "Shallow." Startling earthy and layered music on the opening to "Pieces Of A Dream." Crackly female vocals join in on "Know Yourself" - a nice touch, a very soft song. It's a snuggling album if there ever was one. Nothing but rolling and sweet songs, lonely and open, slinky and loving. That pretty well sums everything up. It's just plain pretty. The whole album is just plain put together so beautifully. Nothing seems erroneous or out of place. Each note plunked into the perfect spot to make it flow and feel right. The strings come in and combine with the chimes at just the right spot. It's not too wild but remains interesting to listen to. And there's something intrinsically creepy about the real-life samples of.. fire? subways? people? that run through the album.
Song of choice :
I adore the light gentleness of "Mean To Mean."
