THE PAYOLA$
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
SATURDAY, JULY 28TH
COMMODORE BALLROOM
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 8:00 PM SHOW 9:30 PM
**GENERAL ADMISSION**
In the '80s, no band represented Vancouver like The Payola$. While singer
Paul Hyde would go on to a successful solo career and guitarist Bob Rock
would become one of the most in-demand producers in the world, helming the
console for acts like Metallica, together the two formed an extraordinary
team that was more than the sum of its parts. With their band The Payola$,
Rock and Hyde released such groundbreaking records as In a Place Like This,
No Stranger to Danger and Hammer on a Drum. Singles such as "Romance",
"Soldier", "Never Said I Loved You" (a duet with Rough Trade's Carol Pope)
and the worldwide new wave sensation "Eyes of a Stranger" cemented The
Payola$' reputation as one of Canada's finest bands, and a group equally at
home writing socially conscious ballads, reggae-inflected punk rock tunes and
catchy pop hits.
Finally, in 2007, The Payola$ are back after a twenty year hiatus (though Bob
and Paul recorded an album as Rock and Hyde). Last year saw the release of a
single, "Bomb" and this spring sees a new incarnation of the band touring in
support of a five-song EP, Langford (Part 1). It's about time.
Don't miss legends The Payola$ at the Commodore Ballroom on Saturday, July
28th.

SILVERCHAIR
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
SATURDAY, JULY 21ST
COMMODORE BALLROOM
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 8:00 PM SHOW 9:00 PM
**GENERAL ADMISSION**
Even though the members of Silverchair are still only 27 years old, the trio
has already had four consecutive number 1 albums in their Australian
homeland. They've received 39 ARIA Award nominations over the last 12 years
and they've sold over 6 million albums around the world with records like
their debut Frogstomp and its follow-up, Freak Show. Early singles like
"Tomorrow", "Freak", "Abuse Me", and "Cemetery" established the group as
among the grunge era's finest. After finally graduating from school, the band
released its critically lauded breakthrough, Neon Ballroom, a truly original
sounding album that fused heavy rock with orchestral flourishes, synthetic
touches, and powerfully emotional lyrics. In 2001 Silverchair's fourth album,
Diorama, explored even more new musical territory and entered the Australian
charts at #1, yielding the top 10 singles "The Greatest View" and "Without
You". The album won the group six ARIA Awards (Australia's Grammys) including
Best Group and Best Rock Album. It went on to be certified five times
platinum.
Now, following a hiatus, Silverchair has returned with its fifth studio
full-length, Young Modern. The group's intent is clear from the brash guitar
wail and the pounding drums and bass that give lift-off to the album's
opening track, "Young Modern Station". Then it's straight into the slow
burning epic "Straight Lines"--the first single to be lifted from the
album--and on through an album full of melody, invention and exuberance.
There's no question--Silverchair is back, and better than ever.
Don't miss Silverchair with special guests at the famous Commodore Ballroom
on Saturday, July 21st.

**RESERVED SEATING**
The Scorpions power-packed live shows have numbered among the events that
sold out the fastest in the USA and Canada and many European countries for
decades. The band is currently experiencing a real revival in Britain: last
year the demand for Germany's most-successful international music export
reached a new high there. "Direct contact with our fans is our biggest source
of inspiration" explains Klaus Meine. Humanity World Tour 2007/2008 will take
the Scorpions right through Europe, North and South America and Asia.
A stunning surprise package is boxed and tied and ready for unwrapping:
Scorpions, are poised to "sting" once again and are planning a frontal attack
on the musical artery of rock fans all over the globe with their new album
Humanity - Hour I. Thirty-five years after the release of their debut album
Lonesome Crow, the Scorpions believe they have reached a new creative high in
their impressive career.
The Scorpions describe their musical collaboration with the legendary
American producer Desmond Child, as "renewing themselves". Child has already
helped to shape the sound of artists like Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper,
Kiss and Meat Loaf and has been responsible for the release of over 100 hits.
The fruit of this extremely productive collaboration, in which James Michael
was also on board as co-producer, is an album that melds the classic hard
Scorpions sound with modern elements of today's musical style. "We are
sending our fans a positive musical message, telling them to not let the
insanity going on around us every day get them down", explains Klaus Meine,
who considers Humanity - Hour I to be the most powerful album since the
global success of Crazy World in 1991. "We have delivered a strong body of
work over the years and are more confident than ever," says lead-guitarist
Matthias Jabs.

PRIDE TIGER
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS SPORTS AND TAXES
THURSDAY, JULY 12th
RICHARD'S ON RICHARDS
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 8:00 pm SHOW 9:00 pm
Vancouver's Pride Tiger is four guys linked by a record collection, a real
record collection, as in vinyl, and a shared love of music from the
seventies.
On their self-titled debut for EMI Music Canada, produced, engineered and
mixed by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Monster Magnet, Fu Manchu), they modernize the
glorious 70's rock style, resulting in 13 songs that are powerful, sweaty,
hooky, suitably head-banging and one big party. No need to dress up or wash
your hair. Songs like "Let Em Go," Long Way Down," "What It Is," "Fill Me In"
and "Forget Everything" are all that's needed.
In 2005, Pride Tiger started playing parties, particularly at Bloodstone
Press, the screen-printing company that they ran. Soon, they added local
shows, which drew line-ups outside. A year ago, as they disentangled
themselves from their other bands, they cut a nine-song, self-produced CD
(yes, CD, not vinyl LP) called Wood, Dhak, Froese, Payette, that included the
gem "White Witch Woman Blues."
As word spread of Pride Tiger and industry interest was raised, they
continued to write songs in their beloved seventies vein and also took a
detour to NXNE in June to showcase. By the summer, the band signed with EMI
Music Canada and did a day's worth of phone calls with producers to source
out the best fit for their major label debut. Now that the album, The Lucky
Ones, is finished, Pride Tiger is loading into a van, touring across Canada
and into the U.S. They've lived in a "crazy old dirty punk house" together,
then in an L.A. suite for two months, so 18 months in a van shouldn't be a
problem.
Don't miss your chance to see Pride Tiger live with special guests Sports and
Taxes for the release of their latest record The Lucky Ones at Richard's on
Richards on Thursday, July 12, 2007.
